SinCity is one of the few films of the past decade that I paid for and viewed in a cinema. I'm a bit of a comic book geek, and while I never read the SinCity comics, I'm a big fan of Frank Miller (who isn't?).
I enjoyed it then, but was a little bit distracted because it happened to be a little too intense for two other movie-goers in our group. I admit, I'm not the best at choosing films for a bunch of people to watch together!
I watched it again on DVD yesterday, and was reminded of how absolutely awesome it is. The stories are complex and gripping yet tangible. The cast and acting is amazing, and the art direction is magnificent. Its rare when a diverse group of actors get together, and when they do, sometimes it works OK, sometimes it works pretty well, and sometimes its pure magic. That's what I'd call SinCity: pure magic in terms of the casting and their collaboration.
- Bruce Willis
- Jessica Alba
- Benicio Del Toro
- Michael Clarke Duncan
- Josh Harnett
- Brittany Murphy (RIP)
- Clive Owen
- Elijah Wood
... the list goes on!
The ending is phenomenal. That's all I'll say because I don't want to spoil it for anyone who hasn't seen it. I'd venture to guess it captures some of what some of us hope to be, or have, in our lives: a hero.
I did a tiny bit of research while writing this post... looks like there is a sequel planned for 2010. Interesting!

Fantastic movie, one of my favorites. The style and atmosphere reminded me a lot of The Watchmen. Can't wait for the sequel. I figured it would have been out by now, considering its been six years since the original. Seems like most movies popular movies have a two year period between sequels. Wondering if they ran into trouble with the production.
